Corollary

Corollary / Handwriting to LaTeX

Handwriting to LaTeX.

Corollary is an iPad app that turns Apple Pencil handwriting into real, editable LaTeX. You write a line of mathematics by hand, and Corollary typesets it beside your ink.

How does Corollary turn handwriting into LaTeX?

As you finish each line, Corollary reads your handwriting and typesets it in LaTeX next to the ink. The handwritten page and its typeset version grow together, line by line, in one document. You don't select anything or press a convert button.

Drawings, diagrams and margin notes stay as ink on the page, next to the typeset lines.

What LaTeX do you get?

Standard LaTeX that compiles in any TeX distribution and in Overleaf, with environments such as theorem, proof and align. A handwritten theorem and a short calculation become:

\begin{theorem}[Bolzano--Weierstrass] Every bounded sequence $(x_n)\subset\mathbb{R}$ has a convergent subsequence. \end{theorem} \begin{align} \int_0^1 x^2\,dx &= \left[\tfrac{x^3}{3}\right]_0^1 \\ &= \tfrac{1}{3} \end{align}

Can I edit the LaTeX?

Yes. Open the source beside the page and change anything: a symbol, an environment, the whole line. Templates, packages and a symbol palette are there when you need them, and your handwriting stays on the page as the record of what you wrote.

How do I get my LaTeX into Overleaf?

Export the document as a .tex file and upload it to Overleaf, or connect Overleaf in Corollary and send it there directly. You can also export a PDF or PNG, or open the .tex file in your own editor.

Do I need to know LaTeX?

No. You write by hand and Corollary writes the LaTeX. If you already use LaTeX, the source is yours to edit and take anywhere.

Yes. Search looks across every notebook, including handwriting, drawings, typed text and LaTeX, so you can find a proof by what you wrote rather than by the file it is in.

Which devices does it work on?

You write on iPad with Apple Pencil. The Mac and iPhone apps open the same notebooks, so you can review, typeset and export them there.

How is this different from converting equations in Goodnotes or Notability?

Goodnotes and Notability convert the equations you select into math whose LaTeX you can edit. Corollary typesets every line of the page as you write, keeps it in one document whose source you can edit, and exports it as a .tex file. See the comparisons for details.

What does it cost?

Notes โ†’ LaTeX is part of Pro, at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. The free plan includes the blank canvas, PDF to notes and exports to PDF and PNG. See plans.
